The Gauss Principle is one of the differential variational principles in analytical mechanics. The Gauss principle is simple and convenient in theory, and has its advantage in application. It can be used for holonomic and nonholonomic systems with ideal bilateral constraints. Some of the relevant historical data are provided for the form and the development of the principle in this paper. Moreover, the authors′ proposition is given.
